I recently sat down with Pete Mathews, co-owner with wife Heather of MVP Vintners
located at 150 Wapato Way in Manson. I was there as a representative of the Manson Chamber of Commerce
to check in and see how things were going as they approach their first year in business, May 24 to be exact. We had a positive conversation about their wine and business but for me the highlight was Pete's story on how he got to this point in his life.
MVP Vintners offers nine different wines including five reds, three whites and one Rose'. Pete says their best seller is the Tempranillo but he's partial to the reds. For Pete it's all about the food and pairing with the best wine. In the tasting room they offer specialty foods you can purchase. This spring MVP Vintners are offering two new wines, 2015 Gypsy Rose (Rhone blend rose') 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
New for this year the 2015 Gypsy Rose
MVP Vintners tasting room is spacious and has plenty of room to enjoy your wine tasting experience. They also offer an outside patio with a wonderful view of Manson Bay. It's a very peaceful place to spend time with a glass of wine and crank back a couple notches on the stress meter!

The outside area is a great place to listen to some of our local musicians and a few from far away. Pete says they are going to double-down on entertainment this year and you can check their music schedule on the MVP Facebook
page. Caryn Jameson, an amazing entertainer will be there the 4th
of July weekend and again the first weekend in October for Crush. On May 9th
MVP will host the Wine Alliance's monthly meeting.

MVP Vintners is open Tuesday - Sunday from 12:00 to 7:00 except on Sunday when they close at 5:00. Pete says the season has started early as they had an amazing March and he has a positive feel for the rest of the tourist season. MVP produces around 750 cases of wine annually and Pete plans to increase that for next year. They also offer a Wine Club, which Heather manages. Prior to MVP Heather was a State Farm Insurance agent so she has taken on the duties of managing the behind the scenes part of owning a business. Pete is very happy about that!
Now back to Pete. He was a professional golfer for many years and also an instructor. In 2011 he was in a horrific skiing accident that landed him in the hospital and side-lined him for a year. Pete says he lucky to be alive. The accident ended his golf career so he was at a turning point in his life. He had always enjoyed wine, in fact he was a collector of wine. He answered an ad for a tasting room position and got started in the business. In 2015 he started co-hosting The Tasting Room
with Jim Dai on KOZI Radio. You can listen in every Thursday morning at 11:05AM and every Saturday after 2nd Cup.
This has opened doors to his network of people in the wine business. Pete is very thankful to all the friends he has met the past couple years and the knowledge they shared with him. There's much more to the story so be sure to ask Pete for all the details. And by the way Pete is also a well-known stage actor throughout North Central Washington. In time, who knows, you may see a play or two on the tasting room's patio.
