The Manson 2nd Annual Golf Ball Drop took place at 1:00 at Leffler Field just after the Apple Blossom Parade. The event was co-hosted by the Manson Chamber of Commerce and the Manson High School football team. Team members, under the leadership of Coach Scott Ward, sold tickets throughout the community prior to the big weekend. For their efforts Manson's Football program will receive half of the profit. On May 25th Coach Scott Ward and members of the Manson Football team accepted a check for $750 from the Manson Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's office in the Manson Business Center.
Tickets for the golf balls were sold for $5.00, which gave you a chance to win $500, $250 or $100! There were 1,000 golf balls available and just over 300 were sold but all were dropped…….so your odds of winning were even greater.
The golf balls were loaded onboard Dale England's helicopter (the yellow bird) and were flown to Leffler Field in Manson. Dale positioned the helicopter several hundred feet above a pre made green with a flag marking the hole.
The balls were dropped and Scott and several members of the football team rushed on the field to find out who won.
Winners were presented their check at an informal ceremony at the Manson Chamber office on May 20.
1st Place: $500 - Joaquin Mendoza
2nd Place: $250 - Brisa Montejano is a teacher at Chelan High School and she purchased her ticket from Bo Charlton. Brisa is a Chelan native and is making a trip to South Korea next week so the money will come in handy.
3rd Place: $100 - Hal Killian works as a Purchasing Agent/Maintenance Coordinator for Wapato Point. Hal graduated from Manson High School in 1977. Rather than keep the money Hal donated his winning to the football team. Way to go Hal.
We look forward to next year and a bigger and better Golf Ball Drop in Manson. We thank everyone that helped make this event a success.
