American Legion Post 108 in Manson enjoyed two events to highlight veterans in our community and then gave back to our community in a big way!
November 9 the students at Manson High School held a Veterans Day breakfast starting at 8:30. The student lounge was decorated with a patriotic theme, it was impressive! Students and staff prepared and served pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee and apple juice for fifteen local veterans. Principal Don Vanderholm welcomed everyone and played a video created by students thanking veterans, in their own words. Veterans in attendance were very appreciative of this effort.
Manson's American Legion Post held a somber celebration on Veterans Day, November 11 starting at 11:00. Post Commander Clyde McClullough opened the event highlighting the importance of honoring our veterans, never forgetting what they did for our country. Matt Brown, Manson High School band teacher next led everyone in singing "God Bless America" and that was followed by the Manson band playing two patriotic songs. State Representative Mike Steele was the featured speaker and talked about our veterans, their importance to our country and the need for the United States to find unity once again, leaving divisiveness in the past. After the ceremony people were invited to stay and enjoy coffee and treats.
American Legion, Post 108 holds its monthly meeting the first Monday of the month at the Manson Parks office starting at 7:00 PM. At the November 6 meeting a motion was made, seconded and pasted by a unanimous vote to support the local Manger Mall. Prior to the November 11 celebration Kathi Fedor, representing Chelan Valley Hope accepted a check from the American Legion for $1,000.
The Manger Mall is a program started in 2009 to help struggling families provide a gift for their child(ren) at Christmas. The Manger Mall was created to assist these families while helping them maintain their dignity. North Shore Bible Church in Manson will again be the venue for the Manger Mall on December 9. Parents check in and then are sent to the mall area where hundreds of gifts are on display. Parents pick one gift for each child on their list. They then proceed to the checkout line and pay $1 for each gift. Next, it's off to the wrapping station where not only tape, ribbon and Christmas paper is available, there are also volunteers willing to assist. Christmas music is playing in the background and coffee, punch and cookies are there to round out a great experience. What a great day for everyone!
