It had been two years since I last visited Four Lakes Winery high atop a hill that overlooks Chelan, Wapato, Roses, and Dry Lakes.……breathtaking!! If you’ve not made the journey up “Karl’s Hill” be sure to do so this year. They are located at 4491 Wapato Lake Road in Manson.
Karl Koester and his crew, Mariah Pyle, Sandy Hurst and Karl’s mom Kris Binder welcomed twenty plus guests for the May Manson Mingle. His team put on an unexpected spread of treats and we thank them for their efforts. There was plenty of food as many of the attendees brought a dish as well. Karl offered guest wine by the glass, bottle or case at his wholesale price, a great time to stock up!
Four Lakes produces “Estate Wines” meaning they use their own grapes grown in Manson. In 1999 Karl gave up his business as a contractor to join his father, Don Koester in the wine business. In 2001 the Four Lakes Winery dream was developed and in 2004 they bought sixty-three acres in Manson where the tasting room now resides, and ten acres on Howard Flats which is six miles east of the tasting room. Karl has a background in physics and chemistry so hanging up his hammer and becoming a winemaker was an easy transition, Karl and his crew planted and manages all their vineyards. On an average Four Lakes Winery makes 2000 cases of wine annually, Karl said their 2014 Syrah is the most popular. One last tidbit…Four Lakes just opened a tasting room in downtown Manson. Be sure to stop by and say hello to Mariah Pyle who is the tasting room’s manager.
It was great to see the Manson Chamber of Commerce’s newest member, Desirea Doty owner of Yuppy Puppy 4 Paws & Suites, located at 2029 Winesap Ave. in Manson. She’s been in the business for 22 years and has five star reviews! We take our Corky to her for grooming and he loves her!
Sandy Day and Ron Trickett represented the Manson Chamber at the event. Ron highlighted past events that included the Manson Apple Blossom Festival and the Manson Rat Rod Car Show that takes place this weekend, May 20 and 21 in Lefter Field in Manson.
The big 4th of July Fireworks show is coming soon, a community funded event. A GoFundMe page has been set up to accept ongoing donations for the display. Lake Chelan Winery will again host an auction to raise funds for the fireworks. The 4th Annual Stars and Stripes Auction will take place June 10, 2017 at 6 p.m. Tax deductible donations of items such as art, sports memorabilia, hotel stays and gift baskets can be made by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. To RSVP and purchase tickets to the Auction and fundraiser call Lake Chelan Winery at 509-687-9463. Tickets are $30 per person | $15 for children under 12.
We found out the Manson Postmaster, James Bisceglia is also an author. He brought along book one and two of the Lost Sols Trilogy. Book three will be out soon. Sandy Day has copies at the Canvas by the Lake in downtown Manson or you can order at Amazon online.
Catharine and Skip Morehead took part in the Mingle. Catharine spoke about an upcoming event that will provide funding for Chelan Valley Hope serving those in need in the Chelan Valley. Mark your calendars for the Woodstock Anniversary Concert that will take place on August 25th at Watson’s Alpenhorn Café, 7600 S. Lakeshore Road in Chelan. The main attraction this year is the band “Waterdog” dressed in period costume, performing hits played at Woodstock as well as songs from the Woodstock era. I’m looking forward to the event as I’ve been asked to MC the show. Getting out my hippy blond wig for this event!!!
We ended the night by viewing a double rainbow over Manson from the Four Lakes Winery deck. A perfect ending to a perfect night. If you have an interest in hosting the June Manson Mingle on Wednesday – June 21 contact me at 509-293-0225.
